This year’s Taster Day was staged on 23/04/2021 as an online-only event for the first time. Two second-year students capably guided participants through the day.
Principal Jörg Gerling and Director of Studies Georg Böttcher welcomed participants and provided a general overview of further education opportunities at DMSB. Former students then gave accounts of their time at DMSB and how their careers progressed after graduation.
Following a short break, participants were taken on a virtual tour of the School. As part of the tour, students had shot a film showing some of the School’s laboratory equipment and machinery. Mr. Böttcher provided live commentary during the film.
After that, participants were given the opportunity to take a more detailed virtual look at a range of issues: topics like accommodation, funding/BAföG (student grants in Germany), the master craftsman’s examination, the “Glück zu” student association, integrated degree courses/Welfenakademie and reports from former students were presented in detail. Any unanswered questions were responded to in German and English during the closing session.
Overall, the online Taster Day was a great success – we even welcomed potential students from as far away as India and Bulgaria. That is why we will continue to stage this event online, perhaps in parallel to our face-to-face Taster Day.
